Formulae:
1) If a can do a piece of work in n days, then A’s one day work is 1/n.
The below diagram shows the graphical intuition of the formulae.
The rectangle box is a piece of work.
Assume, The work is the construction of the house.
We can finish the construction of the house in 5 days.
A’s one day work = divide the total work into five parts, as the red lines show.
We can do 1/5th part of the work in one day.
A’s one-day work = 1/5.
2) If A’s one-day work is 1/n, then A can finish the work in n days.
The second formulae are exactly the opposite of the first one.
3) If A is twice as good a workman as B, then.
The ratio of work done by A and B = 2: 1
The ratio of time taken by A and B = 1: 2
Point to understand: A is twice efficient as B. Ie, A can do work twice faster than B.
Time and work efficiency are inversely proportional.
If a person works fast, he can complete the work fast.
