Decimal Fraction: The following are examples of decimal fractions.

0.86, 3.45

Vulgar fraction: Writing a number in the form of x/y, we call a vulgar fraction.

x, y are integers.

Example: 2/5, 4/8.

Converting Decimal to Vulgar Fraction:

0.25 = 25/100

After the dot, how many digits are there?

Two digits after the decimal point, so in the denominator 1 followed by two zeros.

Remove the decimal point and place the number in the numerator.

After removing the decimal point, we have 25. so numerator = 25.

Denominator = 100 because two digits after the decimal, so 100.

Example 2:

2.008 = 2008/1000 = 251/125.

Example 3:

1.84/2.99 = 184/299 = 8/13

Maintain the same number of digits after the decimal point and remove the decimal point.

1.84/2.99 = 0.6153

8/13 = 0.6153

Example 4:

1.8/2.99 = 1.80/2.99

adding zero after eight will not change the value.

180/299

Convert the following to a vulgar fraction

1) 0.0056

= 56/10000 = 7/1250

2) 3.004 = 3004/1000 = 751/250
