Examples on Ratios 2

In this class, We discuss Examples on Ratios 2.

The reader should have prior knowledge of ratios and basic examples. Click Here.

Example 1:

If A: B = 5: 7 and B: C = 6: 11, then A: B: C =?

Solution:

A: B = 5: 7

B: C = 6: 11

Make B equal in both ratios.

B: C = 6*7/6: 11* 7/6

B: C = 7: 77/6

A: B: C = 5: 7: 77/6

= 30: 42: 77

Example 2:

If A: B = 8: 15, B: C = 5: 8, and C: D = 4: 5, then A: D =?

Solution:

A: B = 8: 15

B: C = 5: 8

= 5*3: 8*3

= 15: 24

C: D = 4: 5

= 4*6: 5*6

= 24: 30

A: B: C: D = 8: 15: 24: 30

A: D = 8: 30

= 4: 15

Another Way:

A/B = 8/15

B/C = 5/8

C/D = 4/5

A/D = A/B * B/C * C/D

= 8/15 * 5/8 * 4/5

= 4: 15

Example 3:

If 10% of x = 20% of y, then the ratio of x: y =?

Solution:

10x/100 = 20y/100

x/10 = y/5

x/y = 2/1

x: y = 2: 1
