Example 1:

A dishonest dealer sells the goods at a 6 1/4% loss on cost price but uses 12 1/2% less weight.

What is his percentage profit or loss?

Solution:

Assume 1000 grams = 100 rupees

6 1/4% loss in selling

= 6.25 Rs loss in selling

Selling Price = 93.75

12 1/2% less weight = 25/2% of 1000

= 875 grams

875 grams sold for 93.75 Rs

1000 grams = x

x = (93.75 * 1000)/875

x = 107.14

Gain% = 7.14%

Example 2:

By mixing two tea brands and selling the mixture at the rate of Rs 177 per Kg, a shopkeeper makes a profit of 18%.

For every 2 KG of one brand costs, Rs 200 per KG mixed with 3 KG of another brand.

How much per KG does another brand cost?

Solution:

Let the cost of other brand is x per KG

CP of 5KG mixture = (2*200 + 3*x)

= 400+3x

Gain% = (SP – CP)/CP *100

18 = (885 – 400 + 3x)/(400+3x) *100

x = 350/3

x= 116 2/3
