Percent: Measured in hundredths

Hundredth Means:

Take any object or item and divide it into hundred equal parts. One part we call the hundredth.

x percent means x hundredths

26% means 26 hundredths

Divide into a hundred equal parts. Take 26 parts out of those hundred parts.

Percent written in fractions:

56% written as 56/100

Take 56 parts out of hundred parts. So we write 56/100

= 14/25 = 0.56

The decimal fraction is 0.56

Example:

0.6% = 0.6/100 = 6/1000 = 0.006

Fraction to percent:

Example 1:

23/36 convert to percent multiplied by 100

26 out of 36 parts is (26/36)*100

= 63.8%

Example 2:

6 3/4 = 27/4

= (27/4) *100 = 675%

Important: Percentage value can be greater than 100.

Example:

Actual salary is 1000

salary increased to 5000.

400% increase in salary

Example:

28% of 450 + 45% of 280 = ?

(28/100) * 45 + (45/100) * 280

= 126 + 126

= 252
