IPv4 Header in Computer Networks
The image below is the IPv4 header with all its fields.
We will discuss each field in our later classes. In this class, we will discuss the minimum and maximum size of the IP header.
We have 32bits or 4 bytes in each row in the above image.
The first five fields are mandatory for any IPv4 packet, but the optional fields depend on the ‘packet’ transmitted.
As the first five fields are mandatory, the minimum size of the IPv4 packet is 20B.
The maximum size of the IPv4 header is 60B if the packet uses all the options.
